Schroeder Design/Build, Inc. is a family owned and operated remodeling firm located in Fairfax, Virginia. Since 1986, we’ve been providing clients throughout Northern VA with comprehensive design and construction services for remodeling, tear down & rebuilds, and new home construction to more than 1,000 clients. We’ll also buy your home through our Real Estate division.
On every project, we work hand in hand with our clients to bring to life their vision of their dream home. Our Leadership
ANDREW SCHROEDER, CEO
The history of our company has been quite extraordinary. While I was growing up, Schroeder Design/Build was the third sibling in my family, along with Beth and myself. We grew up with our parents trying not to talk about projects, work issues, cash flow, material defects, cost inflation, etc., but however hard they tried, it was a common occurrence.
Eventually, I was blessed to work side by side with my parents in the family business for about a decade before taking the reins at Schroeder Design/Build. Although it was stressful at times when we did not see eye to eye, I would not trade those memories for anything. My parents are pioneers in the design/build industry, fantastic members of society, loving and caring people, and irreplaceable mentors for me. They are still involved in the business in smaller roles to this day.
We turned the page from the ‘Tom & Trish’ regime to the ‘Andrew’ regime at the time of the Great Recession, where we saw the quantity of projects go down as well as their scope and size. This ultimately required our team to hunker down to keep the wheels on. The outcome of our survival through the lean times allowed us to reevaluate our company and concentrate on those growth components that add value to our clients. Since this time, we’ve added many layers, including technology, services and more wonderful team members, all with the focus of adding value.
I was proud when Schroeder Design/Build turned the page again, with the addition of Mark Gill as a partner with me in the company’s operations. He has helped fuel our growth, expansion and focus, and we all look forward to many more years of success, growth and happy customers.
MARK GILL, GENERAL MANAGER
Born in Cass City, Michigan, I grew up in Hickory, NC where my dad was Pastor at the local Assembly of God church. Throughout middle and high schools, I enjoyed playing soccer and basketball. I also played in the high school band. After my dad passed away, a friend of the family gave me 10 hours of flying lessons, and that started an ongoing interest in–of all things-airplanes. I am a big baseball fan and coached my son’s baseball teams. Now, I participate in multiple competitive fantasy baseball leagues.
My parents met at bible college in Missouri, even though my dad was from Alberta, Canada and my mother was from Staunton, Virginia. Coming full circle, I also met my wife while attending bible college, although ours was in Florida. Over our long marriage, we raised two children to adulthood and lived in Florida and Alabama prior to relocating to Virginia in 2006.
After working for several companies in various industries, I started in the remodeling business after moving to Virginia, and learned the ins and outs of the industry on the job. When I took a position at Schroeder Design/Build, I got a larger sense of what it takes to run a successful remodeling business. Schroeder is systems based and growth minded, which provides a sense of accomplishment to our employees as well as opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.
The most compelling reason I chose to become a partner in the business is due to the people who make up our company. They are talented and driven, and we have a real sense of family that is hard to find. Developing our strategic plan and executing it with our good people keeps me excited about the job and what is to come. I recognize that only with the best people in place can we fulfill our mission of providing outstanding remodeling services and a fantastic experience for our clients.
